What’s new?

Optics

Everything has been given a facelift.
The Rangee Kommbox and the desktop have a new design.
In addition, the buttons, taskbar and tray have been given a new look.

All in all, RangeeOS is far more modern and appealing.

Speed

With the new Ubuntu in the backend, the performance has been increased many times over. The boot time has received an enormous upgrade and is even shorter.

A completely new feeling is created in the Rangee Kommbox.

Security

There is a new offboarding mode that allows the admin to exclude rejected clients from the TCMS and reset the configuration remotely.
In addition, Secureboot is now fully supported. A signature check of the installed operating system is performed at startup.

With the new TCMS function of a non-persistent group configuration, the configuration of a client is retrieved completely anew each time it registers with the TCMS, without being saved on the client itself.

Usability

The previously chargeable update staging function is now available free of charge. This means that updates can be preloaded during operation and executed at the touch of a button.

In future, all users and admins will also be notified of available updates via a tray icon.

What’s changing?

Licensing model

The previous lifetime license disappears in RangeeOS 13.

A maintenance system is introduced that enables us to compensate for new statutory safety regulations and the resulting increase in development costs.

These options are available:

  • Basic license including 1 year service license
  • Service license with any term (standard 1 year)
  • Basic license including 7 years service license
  • Service license 7 years

Service licenses are not automatically renewed. Unlicensed periods must be paid for when the license is renewed.

Licensing system

With RangeeOS 13, it will be possible for every customer to create their own licenses via our Applicense license server.
This requires an initial registration via Applicense.

Resellers of RangeeOS licenses have the option of creating individual device pools for their customers and providing them with customer information. This means that licenses can be purchased individually for the various pools and assigned directly to the end customer. The end customer only receives the pool key for his infrastructure, which he stores in his clients or his TCMS.

How does the upgrade to RangeeOS 13 work?

RangeeOS will be officially released from 01.04.2025.
All clients licensed after 01.01.2024 will automatically receive a free service license for 1 year from RangeeOS 13 release. So until 31.03.2026.
For older clients, a service license must be purchased for an upgrade. A basic license is only required for non-licensed clients.

RangeeOS 12 version 234 (or higher) is required for the installation of RangeeOS 13.

RangeeOS 12 will be supported until 01.09.2025.

What does the service license do?

An active service license can change hardware at any time. The previous 1-2-3 rule no longer applies.
The new service license covers all previous RangeeOS and TCMS functions.
Conversely, this means that non-licensed clients cannot be managed via the TCMS and no updates can be carried out.
All features of RangeeOS 13 as well as the previously chargeable update staging function will be added as additional functions.
